A Message From The United Way
Bob Pinkston, 2011 Campaign Chair
Welcome to the 2011 United Way Campaign
LIVE UNITED / THE TIME IS NOW
The title of the campaign this year is very appropriate. The time is NOW.
While there are encouraging signs in the local and national economy, many of our families and individuals have been impacted by lost jobs, financial hardship, which is some cases has led to medical issues. There are 25 local non-profit agencies and another 20 state or national agencies that are available to assist those in need. In 2010, your United Way pledge helped provide support to local non-profit agencies that served over 33,000 families and individuals throughout Monroe County.
The safety net of support does not happen by itself. Each year the agencies meet with the United Way allocation panel to review the results of the prior year’s funding and also to outline how they will use their United Way allocation for the current year. The Allocation Panels are comprised of volunteers from throughout Monroe County, who make funding recommendations to the United Way Board of Directors. Unless a donor has expressed a specific use of their pledge, their contribution is pooled with the other campaign pledges and awarded back into the community.
Through your United Way pledge, each of us has the opportunity to strengthen the support system in Monroe County. If you believe in our community, if you choose to hope for a brighter future, then please consider making your pledge to the 2011 United Way campaign. Give what you can, both financially and by volunteering and know that your contribution will help sustain the quality of life and social support system in our community.
