United Way 2011 Pacesetters

Pacesetter Companies start their fundraising early. They hold energetic campaigns that run in the summer months providing a launching pad for the general fundraising effort that begins in the fall. The Pacesetter Companies are community leaders who set aggressive goals with motivated staff leading their efforts to assist others in the community through the United Way.

United Way Partner Agencies participating in the Pacesetter campaign are highly motivated and desire to show the community how they believe that “Together, united, we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow. That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.” The Partner Agencies set participation goals as examples and lead the way toward the goal to Live United with the United Way in Monroe County.

Partner Agencies participating this year will be: United Way Staff, Family Counseling and Shelter Services, the American Red Cross, Court Appointed Special Advocages (CASA), Arthur Lesow Community Center, Gabby's Ladder, Mercy Memorial Cancer Connection, Frenchtown Senior Center.

Monroe Center for Healthy Aging Also participating as a non-profit Pacesetter. The mission at the center is to lead in information and assistance for quality lifestyles and healthy aging! We truly believe in the involvement of mind, body, and spirit in life to remain vital and independent. We will continue to offer the support programs and information to assist you in any way we can.

Monroe Bank & Trust is about Community. Since 1858 M B & T has recognized the need for a bank where residents could place their money for safekeeping, and from which loans could be made to finance community projects, stimulate business growth, and help area farmers and residents prosper. With a branch in every community Monroe Bank and Trust is a huge supporter of their community and the United Way.

La-Z-Boy Incoporated In 1927 two young cousins from Monroe, Mich. – Edward M. Knabusch and Edwin J. Shoemaker – created a wood-slat chair with a reclining back that allowed hardworking families to relax after a long day – and the world’s first recliner was born! Today, La-Z-Boy is still committed to their community and they are hard at work building an all-American invention right here on American soil. With the corporate headquarters still based in Monroe, Mich. They are a big supporter of the United Way and many other community projects.

Gerdau MACSTEEL of Monroe in Partnership with UAW Local 723 is an engineered bar producer utilizing the most modern manufacturing processes in the steel industry. Gerdau MACSTEEL maintains few management layers, and a highly involved and empowered workforce that uses an honor system with no time clocks and rewards innovation, free-thinking and forward planning. With this philosophy, Gerdau MACSTEEL, in partnership with UAW local 723 AFL-CIO, is a big supporter of the communities that have Gerdau MACSTEEL facilities and specifically, the United Way of Monroe County and the surrounding community.

Advance Temporary Services is a local temporary employment agency. At Advance, they form solid relationships and provide cost-effective solutions to staffing and human resource challenges so you can concentrate on your core business. Advance is a locally, woman-owned and operated staffing firm serving Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan since 1990.

Corporate Flagship

The Corporate Flagship distinction is awarded to those corporations supporting the United Way of Monroe County with a corporate contribution of $15,000 or greater and provide for an employee campaign.
